TOPEKA, KS – The 72-year-old Lawrence man was drunk at the time of the Shawnee Co. crash that killed him and claimed the life of an off-duty Topeka Police officer last May.

The Shawnee Co. Coroner’s autopsy report determined Peter Bieri’s blood-alcohol level was up to three times the legal limit at the time of the wreck. The coroner ruled his death an accident, noting that “ethanol intoxication” was likely a contributing factor.

Topeka police officer Trey McCluskey, 25, died in the crash, while his wife, Taylor McCluskey, was seriously injured.

At the time of the wreck, investigators said Bieri was heading north in the southbound lanes of Hwy. 75, near 78th St., when his 2017 Acura struck head-on the Hyundai Tucson driven by McCluskey.
