Lewis and Clark County declared a state of emergency Thursday due to flooding in the Helena Valley, one day after the state of Montana declared a statewide flood emergency.
County commissioner Susan Good Giese said sand would be distributed at the Lewis and Clark County Fairgrounds Saturday, May 5 starting at 7 a.m.
Those who need sand will have to show their driver’s license to prove that they live within county limits and will have to bag it themselves.
The county is hoping to get some volunteers to help with the process.
